 Books and Publications

The Okanogan County Historical Society has a wide variety of books and other publications relating to the history of the county.  These publications are for sale and can be purchased at our research facility in Okanogan (address below).  Proceeds from the sale of these books is directly applied to a continuation of the society's operations.

Books and publications may also be purchased by mail.  To order, send a letter or email indicating the list of items wanted, along with contact information where we can reach you regarding the total amount of your order (with tax and shipping) and arrange for payment.  Payment must be cash or check only-- we cannot accept credit card payments at this time.)  Your order will be shipped as soon as payment is received.

List of Available Books and Publications

The Historical Society has availble many books dealing with the history of the county, some of which are owned and have been published by us and others that we sell under consignments.  Here is a sampling of just a few of the OCHS publications that are available:

• "Images of Okanogan County as Photographed by Frank S. Matsura" - larg collection of Okanogan County photographs taken by famed frontier photographer Frank S. Matsura.
• "Benedick Gubser Diaries" - the really early Days in Conconully, daily and dutifully recorded by one of the earliest residents.
• "From Copenhagen to Okanogan" - Danish immigrant Ulrich Fries' general history of homesteading in the southern part of Okanogan County.
• "From Where the Sun Now Shines" - the Nez Perce War of 1877.
• "Fort Okanogan: "A Dull and Dreary Place"" - definitive history of the first American establishment in the state of Washington, 1811-1860.
• "Mining in the Okanogan" - part of the Okanogan Historical Archives series dealing with the colorful mines and mining folk.
• "Ranching in the Okanogan" - first hand accounts of our ranching past, also part of the Okanogan Historical Archives series.
• "Late Frontier" - a general history of Okanogan County.
• "Frank S. Matsura, A Scrapbook" - a collection of information, much of it previously unpublished, relating to the life of frontier photograper Frank S. Matsura.
• "Glimpses of Pioneer Life" - Ozro H. Woody's biographies and other articles (Hee Hee Stone, Conconully Flood, etc.) published in the Okanogan Independent in 1923 and 1924.
• "Trails and Tales" - a history of the Wauconda area.
• "The Great North Road" - general history of the northern Okanogan valley area, including Oroville, Palmer Lake, and Chopaka areas.
• "Back There" - Hazel Oaks' Memories of a childhood on the Okanogan frontier.
• "Postmarked Washington, Okanogan County" - The stories of every post office established in Okanogan County.
• "Pine Creek Pilgrimage" - all the history of the Pine Creek area told by the locals themselves.
